I’m a Volunteer! Now What?
You’ve filled out the application, checked all the boxes, readied yourself for the hard work of saving furry critters, and now you’re not quite sure where to start. Don’t worry; we all felt that way as first-time volunteers. Here you’ll find bunches of information to help get you educated on the specifics of volunteering with PetsConnect!—from how to sign up for events and committees, to how clean the Luv-A-Pet Center and tips for fostering.
The very first thing you should do as a new volunteer is sign up for the PetsConnect! communication tools. Since this is an all-foster group and we do not have a central facility, the majority of our communication takes place electronically. To start, you should be subscribed to these two main email-based lists:
The Yahoo Volunteer Group
This yahoo-based group is a vital communication tool. Once you’re signed up, you’ll receive info about upcoming events, foster needs, transport opportunities, fundraising event committees and more. Messages to this list are received via email. Request to be added by sending an email to dennis@petsconnect.org. Be sure to note the email address you’d like to receive messages at.
The PetsConnect! E-Newsletter
Our E-News goes out once a week and includes additional information about special needs animals, upcoming events, volunteer opportunities, adoptions, and more. To sign up, visit www.petsconnect.org and scroll to the bottom of the page. Plug in your email address into the form box, and that’s it!
Next, take a look around and read the forum threads. If you have questions, don’t hesitate to ask away on the forum. That’s what it’s here for. And trust us, if you’re thinking it, someone else probably is too, so don’t be afraid to post!
