04_03_2011Sebrina Tingley4263 Skyler is a large German Shepherd mix.  She is tannish-red with semi priced ears.  She has a loud bark for her size.  Skyler, and her three puppies,  were owner surrender to a local shelter.  Her puppies, Fennel, Duffy and Parker Allen have been adopted.  We actually went to the animal shelter and pulled her puppies first.  They were already large at five months of age!  Then we went back to check out mom.  There she was in the kennel with another medium size puppy.  While I watched the puppy jumped up and grabbed her lower lip literally pulling it down.  She cried a bit but did nothing to hurt the puppy.  I was so amazed at her gentle nature that, despite how timid she seemed, I brought her home.

We were told that a mom and older children brought Skyler and the pups in and that they cried when they left them behind.  I suspect this was a case of having a female dog, not getting her spayed, and then becoming overwhelmed with the puppies as they grew and finding them homes became difficult.  Skyler seems to have been well cared for, but I don’t think she was socialized outside of her home.  She is timid in new situations.  But once she settles in she is fine.

I won’t lie to you, Sklyer is not a move in instant family member kind of dog.  She will need a family or person dedicated to giving her a bit of time, being gentle, working with her.  But I do believe she will be worth the effort.  She is really good in her crate and appears to be housetrained but we are still determining that.  She needs a fenced in yard and she is by no means an apartment dog.  This girl has a German Shepherd bark that runs off the Coyotes and wild turkeys!

Skyler is just a year old.
