Liberty is a seven year old highly trained German Shepherd. He has more titles than most any dog because he and his owner worked so hard to earn them. That he is in rescue is highly unusual and very sad. You see, his owner, who had several dogs, found out she has a cancer and she does not have long to live. Rescues and friends took the younger more desirable dogs but then there was this guy. He ended in a small dog rescue who told one of our volunteers who took pity on him and took her to her home because she just knew we would take him in. We did.
We first met Liberty at the Celtic Festival the first of September at Howard Park in South Bend, IN.
Is he not handsome? The bagpiper is pretty cute too!
It was a long day for Liberty and he was not the happy camper by the end. So we were a bit worried, but since then we have had him evaluated and he has passed with flying colors.
He certainly does need someone who knows shepherds and someone who is either willing to learn or already knows training. In fact, a person could go through and earn titles with him as a senior dog – just for fun. And think how easy that would be – well, for Liberty, maybe the owner would be stretched some! But that is what life is for, learning new things.
What follows are a couple of videos of Liberty from our Reuion 2010 at St Patrick’s Park October 2nd. They are pretty fun videos and you can see what a great dog he is.
And another demonstration – I think this is adorable and anyone who trains dogs will enjoy it!
Making a Difference
PetsConnect! is an all volunteer not-for-profit organization moving into out Tenth Year!
All the animals are in foster homes and well cared for, we pay our bills, make our thank yous and our volunteers work very hard to run PetsConnect! as a professional, caring, friendly business!
The animals in our program come from local animal shelters and to the employees and volunteers of our local animal shelters we are most grateful and thankful for the hard, emotionally taxing work they engage in daily.
