A Sock’s Tale

falllineI am Sock.

See me?

I am the white material trailing out of Salvador’s mouth.
I was simply minding my own business, swinging every so gently in the wind with the warm sun drying me when I was snatched from the clothesline!  Ouch!

I am Sock.  For many months or more I have faithfully kept my master’s toes cozy warm.  If he cut his toe nails more often I would not have developed that hole which allowed that big toe to peek the_sock6c_sept_24_2010out.   And then I would not have been plucked from my spot on the  clothes line.  But I was.  Obviously entertaining the four legged beasties is more important now.

So, now I am Tug Of War Toy.  Salvador has one end and Maori has the other.  You would have thought I was the prize of the day!  Maybe it was those tasty foot smells that the soap didn’t get out?

I must admit, I have never felt so wanted in my entire life!  During my life as The Sock I was just one of so many that looked just like me.  We filled up the drawer or were sprawled across the floor.  Dismissed I was.. just like that.  But not now!  Now I have two dogs vying for my very attention!  This feels pretty good!

Salvador had me most of the time.  Maori just wanted me because Sal wanted me.  Salvador would caress and chew and proudly show me off to his friends.

He is a rather neat fella.  I think I belong to him now.  But that hole is now much bigger and there are more the_sock6_sept_24_2010 holes too.  I may disappear all together.

Then I will be The Sock that Was!

But for now, for this moment, I will relish in being the total center of attention!

It just doesn’t get much better.

So, to all those socks out there: if your owner does not value you anymore because you have a flaw .. hey, jump on down and become a dog’s very best friend!
