On August 28th, 2010 PetsConnect! volunteers and foster animals converged upon Culver’s in Mishawaka for our first ever “Hot Summer’s Night Adoption Event!”

And what a night it was too.

Not too hot at all but rather the temp was just right.

We set up our canopies on the grass in front of the parking lot by the access road.

Then the puppy pens and the doggy crates.  We went green which is always fun by pulling the trays out of the doggy crates and letting the grass be the bottoms for starbuck2_aug_28_2010 the crates.  The dogs love it and we do too. At the end of the event a few volunteers played the puzzle: which tray fits which dog crate!

Our dogs love being outside on a nice summer evening.  Here is our Saint Bernard puppy, Starbuck.  He greeted people with his orange adopt me vest.  The wind was blowing so much that the one canopy threatened to blow over.  A volunteer used this large bucket of ice to hold down the canopy. This was fine until Starbuck,

who loves ice, kept eating all the ice out of the bucket!  Thankfully as he finished off the last of our “weight” the wind died down.guest_brindle_puppy_aug_28_2010

Lots and lots of wonderful people stopped by to hold our puppies, walk the dogs and just stop by to say hi and chat.  Some even came to adopt!

Here one of Hannah’s puppies enjoys a visitors companionship.

Lots of children stopped by too and our puppies loved giving them lots and lots of kisses.  Here Max is making a new friend.

Max’s brother who looks a lot like him got adopted!

It was a nice evening for volunteers too.  We brought our outdoor chairs and were able to spend some time chatting.
There were bubbles for the children.  Here a child tries to convince E.T. that bubbles are fun.  But this pup is happy right where he is at!  E.T. is one of our many dogs available for adoption.

We would like to extend a big thank you to Jeff of Culvers for allowing us to take over his front lawn!

When we first posed for the Volunteer Group photo the volunteers in the back were in the sun too, but by time we took the last photo the sun, which by now was starting to set, had moved.

And here we are – volunteers who came out to help at the event.  Yes, we truly had a good time.

The nice thing about this event was the opportunity for volunteers to chat with one another.  When many volunteers show up to help out they create a many hands effect meaning we all get to take some needed breaks from talking to people and doing adoptions and caring for animals.  Not that we do not enjoy these activities – if we didn’t we would not volunteer!  But it is nice when there are many of us to share the work.  These events are also great because we can bring our families too.  There is always something for the children to do!

All the animals are in foster homes and well cared for, we pay our bills, make our thank yous and our volunteers work very hard to run PetsConnect! as a professional, caring, friendly business!
The animals in our program come from local animal shelters and to the employees and volunteers of our local animal shelters we are most grateful and thankful for the hard, emotionally taxing work they engage in daily.
