Short Stuff

Shorgi: Corgi and Shepherd mix
Date of birth: August 1, 2009
Housetrained, good with dogs and cats

Adopted out as a four month old puppy, Short Stuff became bigger than her adoptive family anticipated.  Well, it happens: some get too big, some don’t get big enough.  Most dogs are returned when they are about 8-14 months of age.  Know why?
ADOLESCENCE!!  Remember those days?  We all go through it, but dogs, well, they dig, and they bark, and shorgi2_april_17_2010 they chew and chew and chew.  If an owner has not done obedience work/training, has not crate trained, has simply not put the time into the puppy, well, adolescence hits with full force and it’s not an easy age in general, and certainly not with a pup who has not been trained!

So, this short legged gal does need some work and we are working with her.  She tends to want to jump up but this is something we are training her to do on command to strengthen her back muscles which will aid in her overall health as she ages.  She is a bit timid – shorgi6_april_17_2010 we are working on that too.  Her doggy social skills need some work but she is a fast learner and enjoying playing with fellow foster dogs.  She is crate bound: she wants to be in her crate all the time.  We are working in this by keeping her OUT of her crate as much as possible.
It won’t be long, and Short Stuff will be ready for another, we hope forever home this time, and she will be a well balanced, well behaved dog .. ok, she will still be an adolescence so she will be on her way to being a well behaved dog!

Shorty here is a great dog!  She has those corgi legs and body but then a big old shorgi13_april_17_2010 shepherd looking head and a big bark to go with it!  Her ears usually stand straight up.  She loves to run and play.  She will fetch some.  She enjoys digging in the yard and rolling around in the yard too.  She walks well on a leash and knows how to sit – ok, she knew that back when she was adopted out as a four month old puppy so that is probably not a big deal.  But she will learn more!

She has the cutest long tail and a cute rear end!  The birds would love some of  her hair for nest building and a few have swooped down. Poor dog.
