Monty’s Winter Walk
On January 1, 2010 we welcomed the new year with a walk through
the woods down to the marsh where the muskrats were
snuggled deep within their burrows.
It was cold and the snow was falling. By day’s end almost a foot had accumulated. We took Monty and Libby, my dog, with us.
The branches were so thick with snow that the slightest bump caused additional, unexpected, snow fall covering us in even more
white splendor!
Monty adores the snow!
He gets right down and rolls and tumbles and sticks his muzzle down underneath as if there will be grand things to find.
He goes out and barks at the coyotes – and this is a good thing.
He will bark at other critters too – like the weasel that came up to the dog yard fence.
We had to watch him out on the frozen marsh because he wanted to give the muskrats a howdy-do. Not that they were interested but he could do some serious damage to their little house. No fair picking on the muskrats!![]()
The marsh if spring fed so we also have to watch it for those weak spots which we did find one.. but it’s not a deep marsh around the edges .. shoot it is not a deep marsh period and prior to this very wet season was a drying up marsh like many of the small lakes in our areas. But that is another story.
Here are some more photos of Monty on New Years Day 2010.
There are a couple more blogs of Monty:
