This boy weighs in at over 70 pounds and will probably put on another 10 pounds.
Reggie is a year old Labrador Retriever. He may be mix, but maybe not. We are not sure.
He landed in an animal shelter when his owner decided Reggie was one too many animals.
Given Reggie’s initial behaviors this is probably a good think because this big boy needs some obedience work.
A couple issues we are working with him on:
Personal Space: Reggie has no clue what this is and remember, he is a really big boy.
He seems to view the human body as an item to lean on, jump on and in general just another big dog.
He is learning to respect his humans.
He is learning but will need continued work in this area.
Play biting: at some point someone in his past thought it was cute that he nibbled on their hands.
Probably when he was a wee puppy but then he grew and grew and grew.
It is never, ever ok to allow any canine at any age to nibble your hands.
So, now he is a big boy with large sharp teeth and it hurts when he grabs hands.
We are really working on that! Whoever adopts him needs to most certainly continue working with him.
Leash work: obviously he had never been on a leash to speak of. We have been working with him on that aspect too.
We have been working with a no pull harness and, of course, lots of treats, and that is proving to be successful.
He will come with a no pull harness.
Reggie does really well with dogs his size but can at times cop an attitude. He is accustomed to being top dog.
We speak sternly to him and he quits and plays nicely.
Reggie is a sweet boy with so much to offer.
He is loving and affectionate;
He is a quick learner and wants to please:
He loves treats and he loves people;
He is BIG and BEAUTIFUL;
and he has tons of expressions that are awesome.
Once he learns his manners and calms down this is going to be the best dog ever!
Are you up for the challenge?
Is this the dog for you?
