Archy: An English Coonhound

archy_jan_17_2014 (2)Archy is an over the top handsome red tick English Coonhound puppy.

Born June 18, 2013, Archy is only seven months old and already weighs 45 pounds.
He is well marked and physically well proportioned.  He has a sweet temperament and does well with dogs and most of the time the cats.
Archy’s mom is Ch’Pr’Thomspons’s Hillbilly Lady in Red,
his dad is Ch’Pr’Thompson’s Hillbilly Big Red Fred.
Don’t be fooled by the name, Archy comes from a nice back ground!
So, why did we land in the animal shelter?  The person who bought him as a puppy found out that having a dog is time consuming and does come with costs.
It has all worked out for the best because now Archy is in a rescue, in a foster home where he enjoys the family life, you know, naps on the couch and sleeping all night in mom and dad’s room and getting kicked off the bed a lot! :)

Archy is a lot of fun.  We have been taking him for lots of walks in the woods.  At first he was a bit timid about all the noises but he is a quick study and is now curious.  I have no clue if he wouldarchy_jan_19_2014 (6) be a good hunting dog or not but I’d suspect so.  He will be a great companion dog!

Archy, typical of hounds, does not like other dogs coming around his food dish and rawhides.  We have been working on that but whoever adopts him will need to continue to work on teaching him to not over react when another dog takes his rawhide.  He is much better about the food part.

Also, he loves to sit on chairs: any chair.  I’ll go down to the dining room to find him sitting on a chair, upright as if he is expecting me to put a napkin around his neck and hand him a fork!  Silly dog.

archy_jan_19_2014 (1)Archy is not able to stay out for long times in the cold weather and he really is a house dog.
He is so so with cats.  Sometimes he is fine, then other times he is naughty and chases them.
He would probably be best in a home with no cats.

Archy is available for adoption.  If you are interested, please fill out an application and email it to us as an attachment.
