Lexi

lexi_oct_8_2013 (3)smrLexi is all Chihuahua.
This little girl will take on the world and she will conquer!
Just a year old, Lexi weighs in at 5.50 and is full grown.  She has the more thin bone structure which may be why she came to us needing emergency Vet care.
She landed in a local animal shelter as a stray.  The staff noticed she would not put weight down on her foot so they called and asked if we could take her into our program.
We said yes.
Next step was to get her to our vet.  We put out a plea on the PetsConnect Facebook and within minutes several people offered to go pick her up and take her to our vet.  This is amazing, an hour after the phone call for us to take the dog, a person on our Facebook had gone over, picked up sept_24_2013 019Lexi and dropped her off at our vet!
X-rays revealed that every toe on her one foot was broken.  It was as if some thing or someone had landed straight across her foot.  She was put in a splint and sent on her way in hopes that the bones would heal.
A few days later, Lexi had managed to chew off that splint, and a second splint too.  Her third splint came with a handy dandy cone of shame!
We also sprayed bitter apple on her splint to make sure she didn’t chew off yet another.  It is not like splints are free!

Well, speed up to splint removal and imagine our delight to learn that all her broken toes had healed!
She had one more week of crate rest to help the bones finish healing and then she was foot loose and fancy free!lexi_sept_10_2013

Lexi is a sweet dog but she can be a bit sassy with other dogs at times.  She loves her toys and raw hides as well as her bed that is in her crate.
She does well with other dogs but is a bit testy with the cat.

Lexi would do best with a fenced in area.  Because she is small and thin she can squeeze through some spaces that may surprise you.
She should not be allowed to jump from backs of couches because this may result in another broken bone.  It’s a chichi thing.
