Lucy Doocie

Lucy is adorable!  Lucy is a two year old poodle mix, gray with white, some black and silver.  She can be groomed in different ways to change what she looks like.  Lucy weighs in at 18 pounds.
She orginally came to us as a puppy, she and her sister.  Back then we called her Erin and I would not have guessed she was a poodle mix.  Surprise!  She is poodle and some sort of terrier.  Her sister looks like her but is cream and white.  Both were adopted as three month old puppies – just three months.  That was two years ago.  Lucy was adopted out to an older person who simply didn’t have the om-pah to train Lucy the way she should have been trained.  And to complicate things further, Lucy developed some not so great habits: like jumping up, bouncing off the back of people legs, begging for human food…sigh.  Thankfully, Lucy is a smart cookie and she is learning fast to NOT jump up on people and no matter how much you beg, the people food on the people plate will NOT make it to your mouth!
Lucy is smart and would benefit greatly from an obedience class.  I’m willing to be she would excell at agility and I think she would do well in Pet Therapy but she needs to be trained first.
Lucy is housetrained.  She has free run of the house when we are not at home, she is an absolute great little watch dog and will let you know if anyone is at the door, near the door or has the audacity to come through the door.
Lucy sleeps in a small crate on the floor beside or bed at nighttime.  Interestingly, when in her crate she will not bark.  That works.
While it has clearly been an adjustment, Lucy does so well with other dogs and actually enjoys playing with other dogs.  Her philosophy on cats: ignore them unless they try to eat your food.
Lucy loves her person and is quite use to being with someone much of the day.  She get’s really excited when we return from wherever we have been.
Lucy does not appear to shed and will need to be groomed on a regular basis.  When her fur grow out a bit with that soft poodle curl it’s really cute!
Lucy would be a great family dog, a great dog for someone who can take a dog to work or who works from home.  I would not put her in a home with small children but visiting children would be fine.  She really wants to be a companion – versus a dog left home for long hours.  Either a fence or a dedicated dog walking schedule is fine … absolutely no tie outs.
