Lady Li went into labor Sunday, November 27th. By 9:30pm she delivered her first puppy: a cream colored female. Not a lot longer she delivered her second puppy, what looked like a black and white color and also a female. Since we knew there were two puppies we thought that might be it. The puppies were settled so we went in to relax and watch some TV. A half hour later we checked on the puppies to learn that she had delivere a third puppy! A little boy this time, brown and white. So, three puppies born the evening of November 27th! They look like pekes.
Of course, we have a long way to go now and we are hoping all goes well with the puppies! Mom appears to be in good health and did not come with kennel cough so this is good. But she has been exposed and could break with it and this would doom the puppies. So, here is hoping to a good outcome for mom and all three puppies!
Lady Li came into our program on November 17th, 2011. Our concern was her eye or lack thereof. I took her to our vet to have her evaluated. Her eye is, for lack of a better description, deflated. It will need to be cleaned out and stitched up. Her remaning eye has an ulcer and one day may also need to be removed. Ah, and she is pregnant! X-rays revealed two full skeletons. Vet said she was due soon. Lady was found by police in an abandoned building. No food, no water but lots of blood sucking fleas. She and her male companion, a peke that looks a lot like her, were left to fend for themselves.
When we got her the fleas were everywhere – even going in and out of that deflated eye. It was despicable. We clearly euthanize fleas! And as quickly as possible. Cap star which kills fleas, plus a flea bath and three hourse of picking off fleas and no more fleas! She is now on Revolution for fleas and heartworm prevention.
Of course, we are going to need to raise monies to help with mom’s eye surgery!
Any surgery to do with eye repair is very expensive.
