Duchess is a nice size for a dog. She is what I would call medium-small, she has a cropped tail and medium lenght hair. She is good with dogs and cats – she can be quite playful. She loves playing with Tamarac the adolescent cat! They run up and down the stairs fussing with each other over the silliest things like dust balls!
Duchess is a corgi and sheltie mix – she is a mini herder. She enjoys trying to keep the other animals rounded up – the other animals are not all that appreciative of her efforts.
She is housetrained and will ask to go out. She perfers to pee and poop on grass versus cement. She is getting much better about walking on a leash – we walk her on a retractable and all is good untill she decides the other dogs need to be rounded up or tackled.
Duchess has been temperment tested and passed. She is however what one would call a ‘fear nipper’. If she is backed into a corner, or into a cage, and grabbed at, she may nip. She would be fine with visiting children but not with children 24/7. She would be fine with older children, probably 10 years and up. She would not be good in a yard full of, oh my gosh, children running everywhich way as she will want to go ’round them up’ and if they do not respond to her barking and running in circles around them then she will revert to nipping them to get them to move. She would view them as sheep. That would be that corgi and shelter herding drive embedded deep into her DNA – she can not help it!
Herding instincts aside, this girl is a cuddle bunny, love bug. She can snuggle with the best of them. And she is great welcoming committee at the end of the day – she lovest to see us when we get home.
